Somehow out of the blue I don't have any sound anymore: not via SPDIF out and not via analog out.

Same problem here.
I have seen some changes with quantal. The internal speakers are automatically switched off, but the digital output is not working.
I have an older kernel version where it still works. (will have to check the kernel version numbers)
