Bug Description

Start the Gimp. It's obnoxious. If I'm sufficiently hardcaw that I want to
change my DPI or tile cache size, I'll go do so. Also, I don't care that you're
creating dotfiles. Go sick. Please, can we shut it up?

sweet, I'm so glad you fixed this

It is especially obnoxious if you are using the Live CD version of Ubuntu.

I filed an Upstream bug on this a long time ago but the gimp developers mostly
rejected it only going so far as to remove the Monitor resolution settings. I
inlcuded various reasons why it was a bad idea but they didn't get it. Most of
the options belong in Preferences anyway.

Perhaps you would consider reopening the upstream bug report and encourage the
gimp developers to fix this at source once and for all?

Even if it was a good idea to show an Assistant/Wizard at first run (which it is
not) the implementation is pretty poor too.
Try hitting Cancel at various places through the process and then if you
rerunning the gimp you will not see installer again even to see the bits you
missed.
