Search doesn't work on parts of names

Potentially related to bug 28975.

A search on https://launchpad.net/people for part of a name does not return results.

Example: searching on "brightman" does not find https://launchpad.net/people/samghost (username = sambrightman)

(The equivalent for products is bug 28975.)

I should point out that I've made my name more sensical, so this is now a bad example.

The current results are all legitimate for the example search are correct. I think the underlying issue here is that there is a perceptions that some of the matches for "installer" should be ranked higher than others. That is to say, the user knows what he is looking for, but does not know how else to describe it? What is the criteria that makes one installer more likely to be the one that the user is looking for? I can think of two classes of information that imply a one installer project is more prominent than another: activity and links from other artefacts. Launchpad does not have a formal notion of either activity or links, but project karma, packaging link, and releases (downloads) may suffice. Packages in archives might also help, but this is not knowable at this time.

Curtis, I think your comments are more appropriate to bug 28975. I'm closing this one as Matthew East filed it on my behalf when the search above didn't work. It seems to work fine now.
