Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I'm upgrading to natty. I'm currently logged in as "try ubuntu" from the CD.
As I have dual monitors, I found "monitors" to configure my monitors. I unclicked "mirror" or whatever it's called, and got shown garbage on the second screen. It asked me if this was ok, so I answered "yes", hoping it would "fix itself" afterwards. And indeed it did!

So... Only DURING the question: "Does this look ok to you?" is the screen garbled. (it shows remnants of what was on the sreen, but mostly garbage...)

I have a ATI Technologies Inc RV620 LE [Radeon HD 3450]

I just managed to boot into the real installation, and when switching to dual monitor there, it did the same thing: garbage on the second monitor. I went to get my camera, and when I got back it had reverted to the old settings. Trying it a second time shows a perfect image on the second monitor.

Hey r-e-wolff,

You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

If it's solved in the new release and you think it's worth backporting
the fix, please indicate that. Or if having the fix in the new release
is good enough, feel free to close out the bug (or let us know and we'll
close it.)

If it's not solved, leave the bug report open. I can't promise we'll
get to it (we get way more bugs filed than we can usually get to), but
your testing and feedback can help out if and when we do.

Hi Bryce,

I switched to Oneiric on two of my systems. I have not seen the bug. But then again I don't think I booted into the "live CD" mode of the DVD.

It seems to be my home system that I reported this on.

On both systems I had trouble getting the system to run in dual screen mode. On one system I had to go and hack configuration files to get the dual screen mode to stay. (I must confess that I use an old window manager (sawfish) as that is able to do some things (that I use!) that modern window managers cannot. )

The system that this happened on has already been upgraded. I'll see if I can boot into a live CD later on.

Hi rew, thanks for checking. If you're no longer able to reproduce it on Oneiric after updating, I guess we can consider the issue solved (locating the patch that fixed it could be quite challenging). Can you confirm that on Oneiric all your dual-head hardware is now behaving properly?

I'm sorry, but I don't think I booted into the live-CD part of the DVD. So I don't think I gave Oneiric the chance to display this problem. If I'm the only one having this problem I'm probably one of the few people with this hardware or something like that. Let's close it.

Alright sounds good. You can reopen it if you decide it needs further investigation.
