Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Having left the computer on overnight, I return to a sluggish computer. top and ps both reveal that I have 351MiB of swap used, with Xorg using 1054MiB of my total 1024MiB RAM.

Probably just firefox with flashplugin eating that memory. Don't trust top/ps to show the correct memory usage, X includes the pixcache which is what flasplugin leaks.

Changed in xorg:
status: Unconfirmed → Rejected

Installed Xorg 7.2 using the instructions in this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?s=56e65f7d6efd667a8143b4348f0265ed&t=373087

Xorg 7.1.1 normally uses no more than 100 MB on my system (2 GB RAM). Memory usage for Xorg 7.2 jumped up to 500 MB within one day.

Downgraded to Xorg 7.1.1 and memory usage has returned to less than 100 MB even after several days of usage.

I had the same problem. After closing flash it all went back to normal.

Found a similar report on Gentoo's forums:

I wonder why this bug is marked rejected. It's still not fixed in Ubuntu.

It's marked a duplicate of another bug (bug #92882 ) so this "version" of it is rejected.
