This is a hard nut. It looks like debconf or dialog bug, but It might as well be
a somthing related to the autodetection black magic scripts of hardware modules
of lirc...

Can you try

1) installing with noninteractive/readline frontend (dpkg-reconfigure debconf)
2) what serial/parallel/other lirc-related drivers does your kernel
have compiled/as modules? do you see anything in dmesg/syslog when
configuring lirc after a fresh boot?
3) I see you are using testing - can you try the lirc package from unstable?

I found the problem :)

in fact in the setup.sh file
ther is a ligne with:
". setup-device.sh" or setup-hardware.sh I can not remember

you juste have to add ./ in front of setup-[device/hardware].sh
like this

". ./setup-device.sh"

Now you can access the menu

Good luck

Could you be a little more specific? which line of the file is that
precisely?

Thanks in advance!

Ah, here we go: Even with the `readline' or `editor' frontend selected,
a ``Select your driver'' *dialog* appears 8-)) For `noninteractive',
even the first question appears as a dialog window.

However, the Linux virtual terminal works OK (with the dialog frontend).
OTOH, Eterm (my primary platform), xterm, and rxvt do not work. Setting
TERM=Eterm in the Linux VT or TERM=linux in Eterm does not have any
effect (apart from the line graphics being displayed incorrectly).

(a) modules loaded:

Module Size Used by Tainted: PF
[unrelated modules leaved out]
parport_pc 21224 1 (autoclean)
lp 6464 0 (autoclean)
parport 22944 1 (autoclean) [parport_pc lp]
ds 6464 2
yenta_socket 9476 2
pcmcia_core 37376 0 [ds yenta_socket]

serial is compiled in, IIRC.

(b) dmesg and syslog say nothing (not a fresh boot, though)

> 3) I see you are using testing - can you try the lirc package from unstable?

Unstable does not work, either.

This doesn't make sense. We do not ship a script called setup-device.sh
or setup-hardware.sh.

I can't reproduce this with Eterm, xterm nor rxvt either. In any case,
this does not seem like a widespread problem.
