software center works only if started from terminal with "sudo"

After serveral actualizations the software-center works only if started from terminal with "sudo". Started from the menu, it will just do nothing when pushing the "install" button. This does noet occur when started from terminal with "sudo".

Hi rlamsfuss, thanks for your bug report. Indeed it should not be necessary (nor is it recommended) to start software-center with sudo. Would you please open a terminal and start software-center normally (no sudo), and past the output here? That will help us to determine what is preventing startup on your machine. Thanks!

This is what appears in the terminal when trying to install software without having startet it with sudo:

Additional info from the duplicate bug report that appears to be relevant and/or different to the details in this bug:
The issue is occuring on a clean Natty amd64 install on a new partition with /home on another partition (shared between multiple OS partitions - the others are running 10.10)

I am also suffering from this bug. Software Center and Update Manager initially worked but now exhibit these exact same symptoms. I can't pin down an exact change that may have caused this.

I am willing to provide any detail or debugging steps necessary to troubleshoot this issue.
