Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Sometimes, and arbitrarily, context menus will appear, but as soon as I hover my mouse over them, they disappear. This happens on and off, and restarting Firefox fixes it (for a while). When I'm having this problem, clicking on any folders on the Bookmarks Toolbar does not show the menu. I can still browse the menus using the keyboard arrows.
Menus affected: right click on the page, right click anywhere on the toolbar, the search provider menu, bookmarks toolbar menus.

Installed software:

After some testing I found out how to reproduce this annoying bug.

1. Open up an application in full screen. (eg nautilus)
2. Change workspace. (Using CTRL + ALT + ARROW)
3. Open Firefox.
4. Switch back to the previous workspace. (Using CTRL + ALT + ARROW)
5. Click on the Firefox icon in the launcher.
6. Right click in firefox.
7. Move your mouse over the menu.

The flaw exists in both 11.04 and 11.10 Beta 2 (25 September).

Looking forward to a fix. :)

I am having a similar issue. I can't reproduce it using Alex's steps; it seems to happen pretty much at random (though CTRL+ALT+ARROW seems to be a good way of starting and stopping the problem). For me, the menus do appear if I hold the mouse down for long enough, maybe half a second, but then disappear as soon as I move the mouse off the menu button (so it is impossible to click on a menu item). At the same time as this issue occurs, autoscroll starts behaving strangely - if I middle click, then move my mouse off the autoscroll icon, then move it back, the icon disappears and autoscrolling stops.

I am running Ubuntu 11.10 amd64 on a Dell Studio 1558, and have firefox 7.0.1 from the repositories, and the issue occurs in normal and safe mode. I am clicking using my touchpad's buttons (I have touchpad tapping disabled) and I have removed the firefox-globalmenu package because of #748850.

The bug still occurs with Firefox 7 under Ubuntu 11.10.

This problem actually happened to me when I used an old version of both Firefox and Ubuntu over a year ago, but definitely not in Lucid and Maverick. It's now back on Oneiric (currently using the beta Firefox 9) on a Sony sz450, and in Natty using the stable version on a ThinkPad T60. I really wish I could find a way to reproduce it. I think it might have something to do with workspace switching, but I cannot see a pattern.
