Bug Description

Brightness changing seems broken on my MSI PR400-016PL notebook.

I try to manually change the brightness using the sliders or the keyboard it start flashing. The problem occurs also when running on battery - automatic screen brightness change.

During this time, it is often not possible to normal use of a computer mouse - the cursor is blocked.

The problem is annoying and is present in earlier releases of Ubuntu (also applies to Ubuntu 11.04), and only on Gnome. For example, in Kubuntu (KDE), an error does not occur. It could be a problem with: gnome-power-manager.

Please help.

Thanks in advance

I found a temporary solution:

If the screen flickers, you can simply select CTRL + ALT + F2, and as already stops flashing then: CTRL + ALT + F8.

I'm on the trail of solution:

"Screen Keeps Flickering
If you have an Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML card, your screen may flicker every 5-10 seconds. To prevent this:
Menu -> System -> Administration -> Advanced -> Service Manager -> Uncheck "Detect RANDR (monitor) changes""

source: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Natty#Screen_Keeps_Flickering

The problem is that this solution apparently only works on KDE (in Classic Ubuntu or Unity I can't find this: "Advanced -> Service Manager -> Uncheck "Detect RANDR (monitor) changes".

Can somebody help me?
