Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

left laptop unattended during upgrade and returned to find it failed. main.log shows WARNING no activity on terminal for 240 seconds (Configuring kdm)
and
ERROR Exception during pm.DoInstall()
/tmp/update-manager-JdwUcf/DistUpgradeView.py", line 202, in run
    res = pm.do_install(self.writefd)
