gapless playback does not work in any gstreamer application

After installing ubuntu 11.04 I installed rhythmbox (configuration files from version 10.10) and found a nasty flaw - to play without pauses between tracks no longer works. It's not very nice drawback, especially for live performances. I use the files in Flac.

Not only Rythmbox is affected, but Banshee too. Gapless playback indeed is broken in Ubuntu 11.04.

I can confirm the same behavior in Clementine and Banshee.

Same behaviour in Rhythmbox, Banshee. Not observed when using mpd to play.

This is a shame! Windows apps do gapless playback for ten years now, and still "the" framework that is supposed to be the model implementation miserably fails at playing gapless audio. Please, fix it *now*. This may be well be one of the reasons why people prefer windows over linux. Any modern operationg system *must* play music as the user expects it to. GStreamer does not. This will drive users into the arms of microsoft. Is this what you want?

Using the gstreamer-developers ppa[1] fixed this issue for me. I hope this will get into precise but in any case, since a fix seems to exist upstream, could someone from the maintainers make sure that fix gets ported to precise?

I'm still experiencing this issue with the latest Gnome 3.8 Rhythmbox (ver. 2.99.1) on Ubuntu 13.04.
