Bug Description

Binary package hint: bluez

I experienced this bug on Maverick and now on Natty. My MSI based laptop has a built in bluetooth adapter, which is reported as such with lsusb:
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 0db0:3801 Micro Star International

I have a Bluetooth Logitech Mediaboard PS3 keyboard. The issue is that I can get it to pair once (after system upgrade), enter the pin and the keyboard/track pad work great. Reboot the system and it no longer functions. Can't find the device anymore via "Set up new device.." via the applet, just sits there "Searching for devices"... after pressing the reset button the keyboard etc. hcitool scan also doesn't show any devices. I removed /var/lib/bluetooth/40:61:86:42:6C:33 and tried again, but still no luck.

I suspect some sort of persistent state data is getting stored which causes it to no longer function, but I would have thought that removing /var/lib/bluetooth/* would have fixed it if so.

I have a diNovo Mini Bluetooth dongle which the keyboard works fine with on the same install of Ubuntu Natty, but it does not use bluez from what I can tell (no bluetooth applet icon).

Current bluez package version: bluez-4.91-0ubuntu1

I can back your post, exact same story here. Also using Logitech Mediaboard Pro als bluetooth device in Ubuntu Natty (x64). In my case this behavior started afer the upgrade to Natty. I've seen the Mediaboard not being recognized by Lucid and Maverick occasionaly, but since Natty it is after every reboot, just as described above. Rebooting again with the mediaboard turned off, turning it on after the booting finished makes it usable again.

That differs from what I've experienced in that the MediaBoard only worked once after a fresh install and never again, even when turning off the device and rebooting. Seems like your situation is much more usable, I'm envious! ;-)

Your bluetooth chip is somehow disabled, try this: start a terminal and run the command "bccmd psset -s 0x0000 0x028c 0x0001".

I've since upgraded to 11.10 Oneiric and it is working fine. Thanks for the information though! This ticket can be marked as closed.
