Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

If I send system to hibernate and return from this, I get a slow system with poor responsiveness.
Restart session or compiz fix this problem, but, i think, it's not the best solution.
responsiveness of window move or other window manipulation is not good in the unity initially, but after hibernation... just awful.
In other matters, I'm watching it with Version 10.10 =)

I confirm this bug with few additions:

-It is especially noticable with LibreOffice.
-I'm using Gnome 2.32.1 on Ubuntu 11.04, so Unity is probably not to blame :)
-Reloading Compiz (with Compiz Fusion Icon) makes the system responsive again.
-It also occurs with Metacity.
-Reloading Metacity does not fix the problem.
-Running Top on console indicates, that it is _Xorg_ using 100% of CPU, not Compiz.
-It occurs both with Ubuntu's own Hibernate and the built-in hibernate using HP dv6700 (latter is faster, it doesn't require full reboot, it leaves the power led blinking, and it is activated by closing the laptop lid).
-I can reproduce this every time.

If you need additional logs etc., mail me at rolind (at) utu dot fi.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. Compiz, in particular, is in heavy development and this bug may have been fixed in the development version of Ubuntu (12.04) if not on your current version. If you are able, it would be of great help if you could confirm if the bug still exists by testing a livecd (available at ubuntu.com). When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. If you are unable to test the development version, please let us know if you are able to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu 11.10.

Thank you for your help and patience.

I am able to reproduce this problem on ubuntu 12.04. I have reported a bug about this bug and a problem with nvidia graphics card drivers which seems to be another issue and is not affected to system unresponsibility after waking up the system.

Actually, I just remembered: Hibernate is not supported as of 12.04 (being that it has many issues as we can see here). As such, this will be set as "won't fix".

Maybe someone could report another bug in 12.04 with standby mode because the system has low performance after waking the system up. In my case the compiz crashed few minutes after waking up the system and when compiz restarted the system worked just as it should. The apport-bug app sended some information to developers after the compiz had restarted but it didn't send the information to launchpad so I couldn't do a bug report about it. I wait for the launch of stable version of Ubuntu 12.04 and then I see if the bug is still present.

Great, please check on the stable version to see if the issue is still there. I'm reopening because you say that it affects suspend as well. Thanks!

This bug is quite old and we didn't manage to reproduce it, therefore I changed its status to "Invalid". If you still experience the issue, please feel free to re-open the bug and update the description. Thank you!
