Bug Description

Kubuntu automounter doesn't mount Discworld II cds, maybe because of the safedisc copy protection. Discworld II is released on two cd's, both safedisc protected, both not mounted when inserted. I don't have any other safedisc cds atm, so I cannot confirm that it's caused by safedisc. Being noob I also don't know which package is responsible for kde automount. Hal maybe?

I don't think it's udev, cause i can mount them by hand.

I've got SafeDisc protected cd's (Discworld II) which do not mount automaticly, and this prevents me for actualy finishing the game. System info:
Kubuntu 6.10
kernel 2.6.17
udev 093
hal 0.5.7.1

If I follow the thread this is IMO a udev/libvol_id problem and not a HAL one. If (lib)vol_id print no usefull info HAL can't recorgnise the CD/DVD file system.

You are already in contact with Kay as it looks for me ... he is the correct contact for this. I close this bug now.

Oh well; can't get LP to behave -- this is an upstream problem, and somebody's already talking to upstream about it

Yes, me actualy. But udev devs have no idea what's going on, so they need help. As I'm not a coder I can only help triaging the bug.

According to http://news.launchpad.net/general/of-bugs-and-statuses

"There are many reasons a bug might not be valid: if it was deemed to be user error, or if there was not enough information to establish whether it was a bug or not. The reporter might be asking a question, testing (or joking). The actual project it was reported against might have been dismantled and abandoned."

Neither of the above is the cause here. Saying "I don't know how to fix it." doesn't change the bug to a feature.

Neither I nor upstream have enough information to ascertain whether this really is a bug in udev, or whether this is some wackiness with your CD.

You, yourself, point out that this is not udev's fault, above.
