Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

I migrated to 11.04 from its predecessor without any obvious error messages. When I rebooted the system, the first time, I noticed a pop-up window that indicated that my hardware did not support the configuration so I would have to use the Classic settings. Sorry for the vagueness but I only saw it once.

The LUCID animated icon normally visible during boot before the desktop starts is not displayed. The screen is blank or has some stray pixels lit. The desktop starts as it should.

As I brought up my applications, I noticed a variety of errors in the contents of the application windows. For example:
Firefox: The url and google boxes obscure the stop and refresh icons. I thought they were not in the toolbar but when I open the dialog to customize the bar, they appear between the url and google boxes. When I close the dialog, the url and dialog boxes grow together and the stop and refresh icons are gone. Note that the chat window scroll bars work as to the browser window scroll bars.

Variety of applications with scroll bars such as the contact window in Lotus SameTime, the scroll bars are not rendered. I can scroll the list of contacts with my mouse's scroller control.

Lotus Notes 8.5.2 is completely hosed. It cannot display any of the icons on the home workspace. Calendar entries do not display. Mail documents can show the contents (sometimes) but not the toolbars are not displayed (the contents are the prior view). I cannot edit preferences at all as none of the dialogs display. The tree structure of the contents is there but each dialog pane is empty.

The only thing I can cite that may be unusual is that it took HOURS to download the packages and I did the install with an external monitor attached. I selected replace for each config file question.

I am on Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal - released in April 2011 and supported until October 2012.

I installed the recommended NVIDIA driver which enabled Unity 3d. This made Ububtu ignore my ACER 22" H213H flat screen and Monitor did not know my laptop screen was a laptop screen (called the monitor Unknown). I did realize where the scroll bars were for several applications but the Lotus applications still did not have them.

My IBM Lotus Notes errors persist (portions of several key dialogs are not displayed).

I installed and tried Unity 2D, no change in my key Lotus applications had all the same errors.

I switched to Classic and no joy.

I removed the NVIDIA driver and got my Acer flatscreen back but all my Lotus errors persist.
