Bug Description

When you left click on the icon of an application, it goes to the application instance already launched or launches a new instance. That can be done using super+<character> as well.

When you middle click on the icon, it always create a new instance of the application. Currently, this cannot be done using a keyboard shortcut.

It can. Quoting one of the developers, if you add shift to the super dance, a new instance of the application will be launched. This is, Super + Shit + <1-9>.

I think Daniel meant "Shift" :) Super + Shift + <1-9>

Ok. This shortcut does not work when I use the num pad of my keyboard *and* if the num lock is activated (that's why I did not find the shortcut). However, it works when: I use the number keys under F1...F12; I use the num pad with the num lock *not* activated...
Any idea?

This is very weird because Super + <1-9> works with both the num pad (locked or not) and the other number keys.

As a Windows 7 and Ubuntu user, I would like to precise that on W7, Right-click on an icon + click on the name (ie. Chromium Web Browser) launches a new instance of it, although a simple click on the icon brings up the active window or show available windows.
IMO Unity should do the same (or at least provide an option to do so) to not bore users on such details.

Plus, middle-click is a pain to do with a notebook.
