Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Fresh 11.04 install, I am unable to change the shortcuts to switch directly to a given workspace (IE, I use alt+f1 to switch to workspace 1, alt+f2 for #2, etc) with the system settings interface. I had to install and use ccsm. There should be an all-in-one interface to change these settings for unity.

Thank you for your bug report, what happens when you try to change those in the capplet? Do you have the GNOME compat option on in the ccsm configuration?

Yes, the gnome compatibility plugin is enabled in ccsm (I'm assuming this is the default, I didn't change it).

When I change the settings in the control centre keyboard shortcuts dialog (is that the capplet? Sorry, I'm not to knowledgable about gnome internals), the reassigned shortcut is shown as expected by the action, and conflicts are resolved as usual, but the assigned keyboard shortcuts simply don't do anything. So, when I assign alt+f2 to move to workspace 2, it is reassigned from show run dialog to move to workspace 2, and when I press alt+f2, nothing happens.

Not sure if this is your problem or not, bradmont, but I found that the 'Move window to workspace x' shortcuts were the only ones that were broken. I did not mean to use these anyways though, I wanted to reconfigure the 'Switch to workspace x' keys.

This bug is seeming pretty difficult to nail down. Since I first filed it, I reinstalled my entire system, and the bug has cropped up inconsistently and in different ways. On the second install:
- for the first user I created, I was able to reassign the switch to workspace keys fine, but when I set up alt+f2 to move to workspace 2, while it unassigned the "open run dialogue" in the interface, the run dialogue continued to open on alt+f2, though the workspace would switch as well. I had to install ccsm and disable this in the unity plugin.
- for the second user I created, I was unable to reassign alt+fX to switch workspaces, like in the original bug. I had to do it in CCSM.

So I think this bug is larger than what I originally posted; it seems to be a general and random inability to sync settings between ccsm and the regular keyboard shortcuts interface.

So John, it might be the same bug.
