lxc-start fails to pivot_root if rootfs is a separate file system

Bug Description

Binary package hint: lxc

lxc-start fails with the error message "lxc-start: failed to pivot_root to ..." if lxc.rootfs is separate from the root file system. It is common for /var to not be the same file system as /, and in these cases /var is typically larger and contains, among other things, the rootfs for the containers.

This is described in full detail in the thread http://<email address hidden>/msg00261.html. This is fixed by downgrading or upgrading, neither of which is available for LTS.

This affects lxc 0.6.5-1 in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

FYI, I have Ubuntu Natty and this is not an issue.

Unfortunately, lxc is not supported in lucid (and, as of pretty recently, the kernel does not support network namespaces in containers at all). Since backporting is required anyway, and the release is not supported, I'm marking this invalid.
