Bug Description

Binary package hint: amarok

On my i386 system with xubuntu 6.10 installed (but switched to gnome) Amarok cannot 'find' files with german umlauts in name or path. The files are on an ext3 volume mounted to /home. When browsing the drive Amarok shows 'GerÀusch' instead of 'Geräusch'. Other programms like totem can acces these files.

What version of Amarok are you using? Please provide the output of `apt-cache policy amarok`.

After looking around the tracker some more, it turns out that this is a duplicate of bug 72673. Please continue discussing this bug there.

I have updated my machine to Ubuntu 7.04, installed amarok and have the same problem. So I think that this bug is *not* a dublicate of bug 72673 (which is fixed in Amarok 1.4.5)

My Amarok never crashed when scanning the collection.
In th 'Files' tab it shows little locks in the file/folder icon of files/folders that are effected.

ingo@blackbox:~$ apt-cache policy amarok

I just installed Kubuntu 7.04 in which Amarok could read a file with an o-umlaut. I installed ubuntu-desktop, rebootet to gnome and it can no longer access this file.

Maybe the bug is in a kde library which is misinterpreted under gnome and not in Amarok itself.

I am having the same problem, too. Amarok cannot open files that are encoded in UTF-8.

System is XUbuntu 7.04 (Feisty)

It seems, that other kde-applications have the same problem, too. Testing with krusader resulted in displaying the same bug.

You are right, the same here. When I start a gnome session in kdm I do not experience this bug.

I installed Ubuntu from an alternate cd, installed amarok and now I can open files with umlauts.
The bug only appeard when ubuntu was installed from a live cd.

After installing some software (aircrack-ng 0.9.1 was the latest) a semi crash (no keyboard input but mouse was usable) and a reboot Amarok no longer accepts files with umlauts.

I created a new user on my system and he can use Amarok with umlaut filenames.

We pulled a SVN fix for this, which would not have been on the CD you
downloaded.
