Bug Description
Binary package hint: apport
This one was entirely my fault. It was updating in the background, when I alt-tabed to the window that was updating the gui hung so I went to a virtual terminal because it was unaffected. In the terminal I would check to see if the update was finished by trying to install another arbitrary program and seeing if it give an error because the updater was still busy. After waiting for an hour and a half I decided that it was frozen and had crashed (it was still updating and the gui hadn't come back) so I gave the reboot command. Afterwards all package lists became unreadable, so I removed them and redownloaded them with "apt-get update".
