The episode context menu items, Download and Re-download do not start downloads

Bug Description

Pressing the context menu entries, Download or Re-download of the individual episodes only moves the view to the show notes, and does not start a download. Similarly, pressing Listen in the context menu does not start the playback or even take the user to the Player, but the show notes again. Ideally, downloads and playback should start when the context menu entries are used.

I'd really love to get rid of the context menu altogether and have buttons for all of this as for the mockups. :)

Can I check you are referring to the long press context menu and not the tabs?

I don't have a problem with the context menus particularly, but don't like the Tab system we have at the moment, that could be dealt with with buttons as you say.

The context menus are supposed to be a way of quickly doing one of several actions. They should *not* be the primary way of doing that action, merely shortcuts because they are not readily discoverable by a user. We do not have this yet as Re-download cannot be carried out without using a context menu.

Re- the mock-ups, I'm almost done upto the screens you have mock-ups for, only stumbling block to do is handling the background image. Can I add to you ever expanding TODO list some mockups for the tabbed show notes/player/episode denting screen, as I have no idea how to handle all that nicely :) Don't want to press you though.., just a gentle reminder :)

Will do more mockups soon. Thanks for the reminder! Might have to do that again, too.... ;)

I meant the menu that comes up when you press the hardware menu key. I ideally don't want two places to do the same thing in such a small app.

As for the tabs, I think they are a good idea but download/play should probably be the first a user hits when entering that screen for the first time.

I think we are getting our menus confused :)

The menu brought up by the hardware MENU key is the Options Menu and is supposed to contain tasks that are more global in nature, such as accessing the Settings. We don't have to have one but I don't think it hurts to.

The menu that this bug refers to, is a Context Menu. These are the ones you get when long pressing on an item. These menus should contain actions that are specific to the item long pressed. The entries in a context menu should be thought of as shortcuts to a desired action, not the only way to do it.

Re the tabs, They would be improved with icons on them instead of text, and I agree that the download/play tab should probably be the first one shown.

OK. In that case......

I love the context menus. Lets keep them as they are. But.... Can we link the harware key to the settings page that you get when clicking on the gear instead of getting the ugly popup we get ATM? :)

Marking this Fix released as in 0.5-RC selecting Listen or Download now takes the user to the Player/Downloader.
