apport 1.20.1-0ubuntu5 fails to install without error

Still no luck for me. This is from an attempted synaptic install. apt-get install was the same. Didn't try update-manager.

As I try this again I can see that while I'm getting the messages:
start: Job failed to start
invoke-rc.d: initscript apport, action "start" failed.

I'm not getting the messages:

dpkg: error processing apport (--install):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

and apport-gtk does seem to install.

Unmarked as duplicate. This may now simply be an extraneous error message when apport is not running and a new version is being installed.

get the same issue while updating with synaptic on i386, seen into dialog comments box:

- installing the new config version /etc/default/apport ...
- start: job failed to start
- invoke-rc.d : initscript apport, action "start" failed

and continue with configuring apport-gtk ....

Thank you for this bug report but It seems it's normal, please have a look to the ChangeLog:
