Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Installation fails on my machine. It's a brand new Samsung Series 9, NP900X3A-A02US.

I wiped the disk and set up the following partitions:
sda1 - 15360mb ext4 /
sda2 - 15360mb unused
sda3 - 6144mb swap
sda4 - [remaining, 97gb iirc] ext4 /home

I chose "encrypted home directory".

After further experimentation, I've found that the partitioning and the use of encrypted home directory doesn't matter. I chose "use the whole disk" automatic partitioning, and didn't select encrypted home directory, and the installer still crashed while attempting to use grub2.

I have the computer nearby and am willing to run further experiments.

Also, I apologize for not mentioning it, but this is using the 11.04 daily build from 4/18, amd64 desktop. sha1sum is b1bb9ae918419fc7f5c2577db7b7e4ab82ac898f.

Could you please attach /var/log/syslog and /var/log/installer/debug from the failed install attempt to this bug? /var/log/partman isn't enough.

I've wiped the computer since that run, so I can't upload any more files. I'd be happy to run it again though. Do you want me to use a fresh daily? And will those three files suffice, or is there anything else you want as long as I'm at it?

I can't upload any more files *from that run*, that is.

The problem was fixed in the April 21st daily build. It appears this is a duplicate of bug 765270 .

On a related note, installing on the Samsung Series 9 with the above partition table results in a non-bootable system. The Series 9 uses the Sandy Bridge chipset, and is EFI. I had to manually specify a /boot/efi partition of type EFI before the installation would work. I can live with that; I bring it up because it might be a good idea to mention it in the 11.04 release notes. Thanks!
