Bug Description

Ubuntu 7.04
Kernel 2.6.20-2
Kino 0.9.2

All suggested and required packages installed without any errors.

While this is also happening on my real files, here is how I reproduce it:

In a new (NTFC or whatever it's called) project create 25 frames of plain black. If I now try to export this a plain mpeg1 file (the first option on the drop down menu in the mpeg section of 'Export') I get the error "Error writing to KINO/JMPEG audio filter - aborting.

It would be more helpful if the error suggested a solution, or checked for the presence of mjpegtools.

If you do not have mjpegtools, then how do you expect it to work?

I just expect that the needed packages are all in the same repository. But that's not really anything I can influence. I'm changing the description to something more useful.

Similar problem is reported in bug #56156 ("kino" should require package "mjpegtools")
This is an usability problem - kino should display user-friendly error message, like

"This action reguires *mjpegtools* software (package). Please install mjpegtools and try again."

instead of mystic error message like now.

From upstream: "fixed in cvs as of ChangeLog,v 1.317. Will be in 0.9.5 release. Uses status bar to warn instead of dialog to be consistent with other areas of Export."

So let's hope that Kino gets updated before Feisty is released.

Just for the record (since this page gets a high ranking when searching for that particular error message).

I just received the "Error writing to KINO/JMPEG audio filter - aborting." message and I did have mjpegtools installed.

My problem was that the directory to which I was exporting to did not exist. As soon as I created that directory and tried exporting again, all was fine.
