Bug Description

On the most commonly used browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE, Safari, ...) <Control>+<Tab> and <Control>+<Shift>+<Tab> are the standard shortcuts used for cycling through tabs. It would be great if Midori implemented these by default.

Ctrl + pagedown is the correct keystroke

I do understand that people coming from Windows are used to Ctrl+Tab. The problem is that this conflicts with focus switching which is the same shortcut and it would become impossible to "leave" a web page containing text areas without that shortcut doing what it does.

Innovate ideas are welcome, I am hearing this complaint often enough and I don't have a solution to offer aside from 'change it yourself'.

FYI: there is an extension called "History List" which allows you to switch tabs with Ctrl+Tab sorted by last usage.

@Allen: Unfortunately, there's no "PageDown" key on my netbook. (It also isn't present on Apple keyboards and won't be present on keyboards for Chrome OS computers.)

@Christian: I'm actually coming from Ubuntu (to Linux Mint DE with LXDE as an alternative desktop). I've been using Chrome ever since it was released for Linux, and before that, I used Firefox, both of which use the <Ctrl>-<Tab> shortcut by default. I don't understand why Midori can't simply use the shortcuts that Firefox and Chrome use: <Tab> to switch focus, <Shift>+<Tab> to switch focus in the other direction.

@André: Thanks for the tip. Would it be possible to modify this to cycle through tabs by order in the tab bar?

No, the benefit of this extension is the sorting based on the last usage.
But you can still activate the "Shortcuts" extension and change the default shortcut.

Mirek, let's go with a specific example. Open http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/tryit/full.php and try to use Tab to switch focus inside the page - how do you get out of the text area once you're in it?

I should note my usual assumption is that 95% of Linux laptops have PageUp and PageDown keys. If that is changing it would certainly make this more urgent than I felt it was.

I decided I consider lack of keys a crucial argument, so I implemented the shortcuts as aliases. As a side effect users of multiple browsers will be happy. However it won't be shown as a hotkey in the editor.
