Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

This issue appears often, but not always. I was not able to figure out under which circumstances it appears.

When opening the launcher via edge, it hides when the mouse leaves the left edge, even though its still above the launcher. Also, the launcher icons do not expand. I guess the launcher just doesn’t realize that the mouse is above it, so it hides.

When using the upper left corner to show the launcher, it works properly.

I disagree that this is a duplicate of bug #745707.

Bug #745707 describes the case that the launcher hides after clicking on an app. That behaviour is worth of discussion, but currently intended. It means that the launcher should loose focus after one performs an action on it.

What I described here is actually a bug. It is not the case that the launcher hides after clicking, it just hides after leaving the left edge. This means that the launcher is unusable when revealing it via the left edge in contrast to the upper left corner. Additionally, the behaviour is unpredicatable, as the launcher doesn’t always act the same when revealing it via the left edge.

I thought that the edge trigger in addition to the corner trigger for the launcher was a good thing. But due to this bug I currently cannot use it, as I have to be careful that the launcher is properly opened, and I risk clicking items under the launcher unintentionally when the launcher hides too soon.

I experienced this bug yesterday. When revealing launcher through left edge, it was hidding after one second (or something like this), even if no action is taken.

What was happening: just reveal the launcher by touching the mouse cursor on left edge, move the mouse some pixels to right (without leave the launcher) and the launcher hides.

Are you sure you have at least nux 0.9.46-0ubuntu1? (this one is supposed to fix it)

@Didier: No, I'm not sure. This happened just once, before a lot of upgrades. I don't know if it's reproducible now (that's why I didn't set the state as confirmed).

@Didier: No, nux is 0.9.44 on my machine. But I’m not yet seeing a newer version offered. Once I get an upgrade on the new version, I’ll report back here.

(setting to incomplete waiting for the answer).

Ensure you have Nux 0.9.46-0ubuntu4 (this one has latest intellihide fixes) and Unity 3.8.10-0ubuntu2 before reporting back please ;)

Marking as duplicate, since the another report contains a video of the problem.

Since this bug report is the older one, wouldn’t it make more sense to close the other one as a duplicate and add a link to the video here? I’m afraid it makes it harder to track the discussion from this report when we now switch to the other one.

@Frederik: I've set this bug as duplicate of the another one because "If they [the bugs] describe the same root cause, decide which report should be the primary one. This should be the one that's the most understandable and contains the most information, not necessarily the oldest (lowest numbered) bug." (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage#Marking%20duplicate)

Since this bug report contains nothing besides comments (no procedure of how to reproduce and no visual representation of the bug) the another report (that contais the video) is the most understandable and contais the most information.

So, setting this bug as duplicate.
