Bug Description

Bastian Holst wrote on 2010-10-1: Is there any reason why kde4libs is built without libfam-dev/libgamin-dev? I think this is pretty important for professional Kubuntu installations.

Available in Universe: yes - for a long time now.

Rational:
libfam is required for Kubuntu/kde4 to properly see server file changes on nfs/diskless systems. This affects 3600 workstations and approximately 16,000 end-users in School District #73. There are other School districts around Brittish Columbia rolling out *buntu as diskless. See bug report for details.

Security:
libfam libgamin have not had any major security bugs for several years. Changelogs only reports small "low" priority changes for several years now - no major security bugs. Last security bug was reported and fixed back in 2002.

libgamin is in main, is ABI compatible with libfam and seems to be the preferred library.
So there is no need for a MIR.
