Bug Description

Even if the statusbar is set to hide, downloads in progress should always show.

Do you mean that it’s possible to hide the complete downloads?

When downloading many files at the same time, the status bar changes its size, and changes the size of the window in the same time, making it larger than the desktop. Very disruptive bug.

I believe I brought this up in IRC quite some time ago, but wanted to check up on it and voice my opinion here as well. I think it'd be perfect if the "download statusbar" showed up when downloads were taking place or had completed within the session. Clearing/closing the download bar with an X or something would make it hide again, as would closing the session.

I believe this is also similar to how Chromium handles it, which is very slick IMHO.

Just another note: we get a lot of questions about "where did my downloads go?" and "how do I know if it worked?" in the elementary IRC regarding Midori. This is because we hide the statusbar by default (since it's not a necessary interface item most of the time). Showing the downloads statusbar whenever there are active or recent downloads would allow the statusbar to remain hidden when not in use while still showing up when users need it.

summary: - always show downloads
+ Show downloads statusbar whenever there are active or recent downloads

I've argued this in another bug report, but the progress bar would look best in the dock. Chromium's and Firefox's displaying of downloads is ugly because it gets in the way of your work. Putting the bar in the dock would be discreet and would allow the user to survey all progress (and I didn't intend for the idea to be restricted to downloads, but also extend to transfer, etc) at a glance. For multiple downloads in a single application, and internal download manager can be viewed, but I think it is not necessary to show all downloads so prominently. Further, this would be easier to implement because it is already present in the Unity Launcher API, and works for Nautilus, Brasero, Update Manager, etc and will soon work for Firefox, USC, Transmission, etc OTB.

... Has there been any progress on this bug what so ever?
I'm running an unstable build of Elementary OS Luna now, and the behaviour is still exactly the same as it was in Jupiter.

Er, little mistake. I'm confusing the Midori in my virtual machine and outside of it. This has been fixed, but for some reason nobody has changed the status on the bug report.
