Ubuntu icon in the upper left corner turns into kind of amateurish blue when I receive a message in minimized Empathy. See screenshot.

It is an expected behaviour. The blue colour indicates a program caling for "attention". This comes handy in times when the unity dash is hidden and an application needs "atention".
