Carla, have you tested this with the Natty Live USB disk? If so, Ubuntu won't open a nautilus window automatically. It opens a nautilus window when you insert a regular data USB drive. I think this is made on purpose so you won't mess around with a bootable drive.

I did this:
 # Testing the same case as Carla, inserted the USB drive from were I've installed Natty-Beta2. The drive is mounted, the icon of a USB Flash drive appears on desktop but no nautilus window poped-up. I can open it by double clicking on the desktop icon.
 # Unmounted Natty LiveUSB.
 # Inserted another USB Flash drive. This containing regular data (non-bootable drive). It was mounted, USB Flash drive icon appeared in desktop, nautilus popped up a window showing drive's content.
 # Unmounted flash drive.

I've tried this in several ways: inserted on different USB ports both separately, inserted both flash drives simultaneusly and always the same result: only the non-bootable drive pops up a window.

Hello Joaquin, no it happened on an installed version of Natty Beta 2.

I meant, the USB drive you inserted. Was it the one where you created
the iso image for installing Natty? I've done that (on installed Natty
Beta2) and the nautilus doesn't pop up a window. In Maverick happens the
same. If you insert a bootable media then nautilus won't pop up a
window.
Try to use a different USB flash drive or format that one and put a
bunch of files in it. It should pop up a window then.

Hope this is helpful

that's not a bug, the icon is displayed on the desktop and launcher and easy to access if needed
