Bug Description

I'm using an integreted video card and I have another better NVIDIA video card. I tried to plug the monitor into the NVIDIA card but no video signal (blank screen) when booting. Then I plug the monitor back.

Since I couldn't find the way to switch video signal output to the NVIDIA card in BIOS setting (AMI motherboard), I tried to activate a proprietary NVIDIA card driver using "Hardware Drivers" in Ubuntu. After clicking 'Activate', a password dialog showed up. Since I'm not sure what will happen (like no display after restart) so I changed my mind and clicked 'Cancel'. Then an error dialog was shown:

Sorry, the Jockey backend crashed. Please file a bug at:

Trying to recover by restarting backend.

So here comes the bug report. It's also highly appreciated if anyone knows how to change video cards.

I have fixed the problem of replacing video card. My steps:
1. Disable (not uninstall!) the onboard card using Device Manager in Safe Mode (enter by pressing F8) (now the monitor is plugged into the onboard card). Reboot computer.
2. Enter BIOS -> Advanced -> PCI/PnP Configuration -> Boots Graphic Adapter Priority -> Select "Slot 6" instead of previous "Onboard VGA" (the NVIDIA GT430 card is on slot 6). Turn off computer.
3. Plug the monitor into the NVIDIA GT430 card.
4. Start computer. OK!

But I noticed that "Hardware Drivers" still have the "Activate" button for the NVIDIA driver. In Synaptic, I did find some items with NVIDIA installed, eg. nvidia-common, nvidia-185-modaliases, nvidia-current-modaliases, etc. But none of them seems to be drivers by reviewing their annotation (and they have small sizes, usually around 100k). So what is to be "activated"? I'm using developer driver manually downloaded from NVIDIA pages (like http://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads) and it's working well.

Jockey has been superseded by software-properties, which now handles
third-party driver configuration.
