Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2

In your otherwise useful documentation, I found two errors:
1. It appears that menu.lst has been changed to grub.cfg in /boot/grub. I had to look hard to find it on my Ubuntu10.10 system.
2. Once you have updated /etc/fstab, you also need to do the following: chroot / (or rather the mount location) ; update-initramfs -u. Otherwise your changes are not taken further into account.

It is true that/boot/grub/menu.lst is no longer present and /boot/grub/grub.cfg contains the configuration for grub, but /boot/grub/grub.cfg is not supposed to be modified, it is an automatically generated file. If you want to alter the settings for grub, like what was done with menu.lst in the past, then you would alter /etc/default/grub as a superuser and execute "update-grub" after any changes.

Sorry it took me a while to respond: I was out traveling.
I only wanted to indicate a problem with the Ubuntu documentation. I
would have used the method you described if only it was present in the
documentation. If you look at the page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto#Backup,%20Repairing%20and%20Reinstalling%20GRUB

you will still find the reference to the menu.lst file.

Otherwise, it is a very good OS.

Since the title of this bug references point number 1 in the bug description, and since none of the documents linked to in this report contain the bug any more, this bug should probably be closed out as fixed.

The original bug reporter should probably open a new bug for point number 2 if it still exists (I couldn't check because no explanation is given of where to find that bug and no reference to fstab exists in any of the documents linked to in this bug report).

Arno, please open a new bug for point number 2 above if it still exists.
