distro: Ubuntu 10.10
source: from a trunk ppa I believe
version (from about dialog): 0.4.1-rewrite-bzr829+201104040233
window mgr: compiz (metacity)
Video card: brand new intel HD... no idea about the rest
theme: elegant-gtk

problem: the awn system monitor dialog is displayed with a light gray background and white text, so it is almost impossible to read

Is it theme dependant? Seems like a duplicate of bug #669799.

The problem isn't that it is transparent.
The problem I see is that the applet draws its own background on top of the normal awn bubble. This self-drawn background uses a static color, while it does not set static font colors, so the effect is white on almost-white
