Bug Description

Installation of all current natty versions (alpha 1 / 2 , beta 1) works fine with image over hdmi on my 32" Toshiba HDready TV.

After installation, first boot - black screen all the time. Even with modlines i cant get an image over HDMI.

Minimal installations behave the same, installation works, first boot => black. Not even the bash works. Xserver doesn't work as well (well it works but black).

On Maverick an Lucid it works fine so far.

If i use DVI instead, using my TFT (full HD) its works fine with Natty too.

Hardware:

Intel i3 530 + Gigabyte H55-N USB3 ITX Board + SSD

Asked by Roy Gilby on on 2011-05-06

I recently upgraded a Mythbuntu 10.10 frontend to 11.04. On all reboots after installation, the system booted to a blank screen, but from disk activity light and successful LAN access to NFS shares, the system is alive.

Hardware is a Gigabyte Motherboard GA-H55N-USB3. It uses the Intel H55 chipset with an Intel i5 processor, and on-board intell H55 video to HDMI.

If I boot into recovery mode from GRUB, and select "failsafeX", followed by "reconfigure graphics" and "create new configuration from this hardware", and then "restart X", I am able to log in and use the system BUT, the problem recurs at each reboot.

I have now done a clean install from the 11.04 Mythbuntu ISO on the same computer, and have exactly the same problems as I had when I did the upgrade to 11.04 from 10.10.

I have attached a copy of "failsafeX-backup..."in case that would be helpful.

Upgraded to 11.04 from 10.10, running 64bit ubuntu on i3 530 GA-H55N-USB3.

If the computer is attached via HDMI on booting I get a blank display, but sound is routed via HDMI. I can connect remotely via ssh so the computer is healthy, but I cannot use vnc so X is not running.

If I disconnect the HDMI lead but connect via VGA it boots OK. If I then attach the HDMI monitor, the screen hops to HDMI and continues to work fine.

There is a patch to the Intel-graphics driver in the upstream 3.8 kernel which fixes black screens on some TV's.
