The screen resolution on the Grub menu doesn't match one which my monitor can handle after a fresh install.
The monitor is a samsung Syncmaster 710N

Something very similar happens to me as well with LG L1919S and Nvidia GPU. Monitor shows warning about being incapable of displaying with given refresh rate.
My kubuntu version is 11.04 after upgrade from 10.10
