Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Network manager isn't displaying any wlan at all.
If I make a iwlist, it is working.
That happend only on natty, it is working well on maverick
I tried the disable_l10n option, aswell as the hw_scan_disable, but it didn't changed anything

You don't need to disable anything or disconnect to use apport-collect, we just need it to get logs and device details.

Alternatively, could you please attach at least the contents of /var/log/syslog after reproducing the issue so we can see where things go wrong? Thanks!

Hmm, also, since I seem to have forgotten that, please attach a screenshot of the nm-applet menu if possible, or describe what's shown: if you see no networks, then do you see an entry for the wireless device and some text, such as "device not ready"?

The plasma apps shows the device is unavailable (sorry, I should have clued in from the kubuntu tag). Reassigning to 'linux'.

Could you also confirm whether wpa_supplicant is running?

Wpa_supplicant isn't running on natty when I check with ps -ax | grep wpa
and it is on my working maverick....

But I could not found any trace of wpa_supplicant in dmesg or /var/log/messages

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Will there be some patch soon? I have seen that this firmware is dated 2009, and there are no newer versions.
