Bug Description

Gnome-sound-properties only lets you set your audio device to hardware ALSA devices. However, ALSA also supports software devices.

For instance, I'm using

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BluetoothAudio

to use my bluetooth headset from my laptop. With xmms, I'm able to explicitly select the a2dp alsa device (it doesn't list it, but lets me set it manually). However, gnome gives me no options for this.

Thanks for your bug report. Does 'lshal' mention that device?

Never got the notification of your question. But, no, it's not listed there as its a total software device (i.e. it's only a daemon and some .asoundrc magic)

Well. I'm running intrepid. I haven't managed to make things work with pulse audio, so hard to say. The applet doesn't enumerate them, but it perhaps would be set through pulse audio?

the pulseaudio use should not make a difference on what is listed, do you consider the issue fixed now?

no. you can test it yourself

unless I set it up wrong, I modified my .asoundrc by adding

pcm.bluetooth {
    type bluetooth
    device 00:13:17:70:7E:F9
}

I can't select it via gnome, but it is (manually, its not enumerated)
selectable in apps like xmms (deprecated) and audacious via their alsa
configuration.
