To clarify, you got this error running a normal update on a 11.04 system?

Yes, a normal update on a 11.04 beta system, which had been upgraded from 10.10 a few days before without issue.

Lets see an update:

sudo apt-get update 2>&1 | tee ~/Desktop/update1

Attach the output file to your next post.

There it comes, but there's not much in there, as my system is currently fully upgraded.

Thanks. Now post the output of:

From the looks of it, the problem is corrected. The system is now confirming that the package is installed. Can you confirm?

Thanks.

Obviously, and I could have told you that before. The problem with quadrapassel not being correctly installed was fixed within a day of it occurring. The point of this bug was that a mis-configured package shouldn't crash update-manager.

Alright now I see. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Is there a known way to reproduce this error on your machine? If there is, report back with a brief set of instructions explaining how to make the problem occur so I can go ahead and test it. This way, if it is indeed a bug, we can mark it to a proper confirmed status ASAP and get working on a fix.

Well, as long as there are no packages with broken dependencies, unfortunately I don't know how to reproduce it. Is there a way to "go back in time" with the Ubuntu package system, to the point where the original quadrapassel problem existed? If not, I guess we'll have to wait for the next time there is a conflict in the package system.

No way to 'go back' I am afraid. And I am not quite sure how I can purposely 'break' a dependency to test this. Well I will close this bug for now, but feel free to reopen it under "Status" when the time comes. Thanks!
