Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-live

I try to boot off of Herd 1 of Feisty Fawn, and right after I select Start and Install Ubuntu, I get to the Ubuntu spash screen, then it sends me to busybox saying:

ata3: port failed to respond (30 secs, Status 0xd0)

This also happens when I load in Safe Graphics mode, as well as when I check the CD integrity. Edgy Eft worked fine when I booted it off CD, so I believe that it's new to Feisty Fawn.

Tested against my laptop (Dell Inspiron 5150), and it boots fine. Could be related to the RAID functionality that I'm not using on the Motherboard.

This happens to me too with Herd 1 of Feisty Fawn on a Dell Dimension 9200c desktop with an Intel G965 chipset and a DVD/CDROM Drive: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A.

After being dropped to the Busy Box shell, I see the following messages:

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
ata2: port failed to respond (30 secs, Status 0x80)
ata2: COMRESET failed (device not ready)
ata2.00 failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x101)

Note: I am able to boot from the Dapper Live CD on the same computer, but I had a similar problem with the Edgy Live CD. I was hoping Feisty Fawn was going to work.

Herd 2 of Feisty Fawn is now available could you try booting from it and report back if you have the same error?

I tried Herd 2 of Feisty Fawn. Again, I am dropped to the Busy Box shell, and I see the following message:

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

If I switch to the first tty, I see

I just discovered something important. In my BIOS, if I change the "SATA Operation" setting from the default which is AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) to ATA, I am able to boot from Feisty Fawn Herd 1 and 2 just fine! I don't really know what SATA Operation means and whether or not Ubuntu should boot correctly if it is set to AHCI.

Thanks Ken.

Most likely this is fixed in latest kernels, so please test again. Marking as fix-released.
