I rebooted my system after the failed update, then ran 'sudo apt-get upgrade apt" from the command line so I can possibly upgrade apt and all dependencies, and it upgraded almost everything without fail. Then rebooted, and ran the GUI update manger to finish off the remaining updates, and everything worked out terrificly.
