Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

I have tried 3 boots. All 3 have the same behaviour. This problem is definitely reproducible, at least on this hardware.

can you run 'apport-collect 750511' in a terminal so that this bug have some information about your system. Also I think either your graphics card does not support Unity or you do not have the driver install, Note: if you have nvidia you need to install the proprietary drivers for unity to work.

On boot number 4, I did not get the Unity launcher as in the 3 previous boots, I also got the following error message:

The panel encountered a problem while loading "IndicatorAppletCompleteFactory::IndicatorAppletComplete".
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

I selected Don't Delete.

See attached screenshot.

This machine has an ATI Radeon 9200. The driver it uses would be Ubuntu default. That default would be the Ubuntu 10.10 on the HDD and whatever default Ubuntu 11.04 2-apr-2011 beta uses on the live CD.

can you launch /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p and copy the output there? (apport would have collect that if you answer to the question "is your issue a graphical one" to yes :)

your system cannot run unity, see the output you posted from the unity support test. you may want to try the proprietary fglrx drivers, but i don't actually know if that will fix it or not, it could be a hardware limitation.

In the past, Ubuntu ran on almost all hardware. Ubuntu and Unity are open source products. If they no longer run on open source drivers, that is a bug.
