* i use Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick 64-bit with Gnome Standard
* yes, everytime i start Shotwell the menu is in the window and the indicator-appmenu only shows "File"
* i don't know, update shotwell to 0.9.0 on a standard maverick 64-bit installation and start it?!

perhaps it isn't backward compatible?!

right, that's a known issue is 10.10 which has been fixed this cycle
