Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

I have read other bug reports relating to applications crashing when inserting an audio cd. Even though patches have been made to correct the problems contained in those reports, I still experience crashing when inserting audio cd but I have managed to narrow down the problem and correlate some observations in both.

The problem, as I have observed in Braero, it seems is that whenever an audio cd is inserted in my PIONEER drive (DVR-A18L) no matter if it was present before Brasero was started or after it started, the application crashes. I have another drive, an LG dvd-writer, that doesn't cause a crash when inserting an audio cd.

In summary, it looks like that a crash occurs whenever an audio cd is inserted in a PIONEER drive upon starting Brasero. I have yet to see if it would still crash in Rhythmbox or Sound-Juicer.

I have just checked with Rhythmbox and Sound-Juicer and the problem stands: whenever an audio cd is inserted in a PIONEER drive, the application crashes. I could send the crash reports for the aformentioned programs later if need be.

VERSIONS:

rhythmbox-0.12.8-0ubuntu7
sound-juicer-2.28.1-2

If this might have something to do with the drive not being compatible with Linux, then consider that I'm able to play audio cd using SMPlayer 0.6.9 with the MPlayer backend without SMPlayer crashing.

So this might not be an issue with the drive itself, but with how the applications (Brasero, Rhythmbox, Sound-Juicer) interact with the drive when audio cd is inserted.

Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem.
