Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

To reproduce:
 - Open any indicator
 - Press Super (No Dash appears)
 - Close the indicator (The Dash suddenly pops up)

Note also that holding Super does open the Launcher (if it is hidden). However shortcuts such as Super+3 do not work.

A similar issue exists with Alt+F2 (except for the dash does not appear when closing the indicator).

I imagine the desired behaviour is for any Unity dash shortcuts to close an open indicator and then perform the desired action.

thank you for your bug report, it's not very specific to unity though but happens with any gtk menu and keybinding, try taking a screenshot when a menu is open for example

I'd say that it's unity-specific, as the launcher appears, so unity gets that the super key was pressed, and when you close the indicator, the dash also appears. The problem is that it does not appear when you press the super key, but only when you close the open indicator.

oh right, I didn't try nor noticed that it was making the launcher come, interesting

Right. But it could be by design, as it seems appropriate. But the flaw is that (pressing super doesn't open dash if an indicator is being viewed) when you close the indicator (like, by clicking anywhere else on the screen) the dash opens up (fulfilling the previous pressing of SUPER-key). Which is the main flaw over here.

This is a longstanding problem with the way screen grabs work in X, so
we won't be able to fix this unless X changes. It's the same reason
your screensaver doesn't come on when a menu is open, or gksu
complains about being unable to get a grab when a menu is open.

I can confirm this on 12.04 up to date. Another problem is that, when viewing an indicator drop-down menu (or even a right click menu on anything or a classic app menu from the global menu), you can reveal the launcher with the pointer, but it acts weirdly: it hides more quickly, it doesn't react when an icon is clicked, the names of the apps don't appear, the stacked icons don't spread...

Can't we just make it impossible to reveal the launcher when a menu is open so the behaviour of the launcher doesn't seem inconsistent or buggy?
