Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

When you click on the Amazon mp3 store in the sidebar, it takes you to the wrong page on Amazon. All that is available there are CD's. The correct link to the mp3 store is: http://www.amazon.com/MP3-Music-Download/b?ie=UTF8&node=163856011

Whichever one ships with Natty beta -1. I made no changes or updates, running the beta from liveUSB.

Are you in Canada? If so, there is no Canadian MP3 store, and the redirector sends to the regular Music store there.

Yes I am in Canada, Rodney. This is disappointing news. Ubuntu One's music store was a let down, because it ignores the whole genre I listen to (Christian music). I contacted Canonical, who directed me to 7digital, who in turn told me my genre is available in their regular store, but not through Ubuntu One. When I asked why or when it might be available, I was ignored. When I learned amazon was being added to Banshee for Natty, I figured this would open things up. Oh well. Maybe some day.

Hi Les. I'm sorry about your experence with your preferred genre. Do you have the link to the other bug you're talking about? I will look into it and see if it is something on our side or 7digital's side for sure. For the Amazon store, it is possible to set a specific country in the preferences to use. If you want to use the US store, just open the Banshee preferences, and for the Amazon Store preferences, choose the US store instead of the default of GeoIP detection.

If there isn't already a bug open on your genre issue for the U1 Music Store, please open a bug against the ubuntuone-music-store project on Launchpad. Thanks.

Thanks, Rodney. I never filed this as a bug, because I didn't think it was one. I will file one at your request.

Rodney, FYI, I changed the Banshee settings you suggest above. The link does not load the amazon store, but if I search an artist, his songs come up. However, when I tried to purchase one, I was greeted with this message from amazon:

"We could not process your order. The sale of MP3 Downloads is currently available only to US customers located in the United States. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

This is obviously a licensing issue, but just wanted to let you know. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Les. I didn't know if the Amazon store would work for changing the country or not, but I see it doesn't for you.

Regarding the store being blank when first going to it right now, it is a known issue, and will be fixed sometime tomorrow. You won't need to update any packages for the fix, it will just start working. Sorry about that. For now though, you can just search, and you should be able to find something.

Sorry again about any inconvenience for you.

I'm setting this to Invalid for Banshee, as this is an issue with Amazon itself. Amazon does not provide an MP3 store on their Canadian site, and do not allow purchases of MP3s on the US stores from outside the US. I'm sorry for the inconvenience there, but there isn't really anything we can do about this in Banshee. Thanks.

For other Canadians who experience this, here is my reply from Amazon, received today by email:

Hello from Amazon.ca.

I’m sorry but due to requirements from our MP3 music providers, MP3 downloads are currently not available on our Amazon.ca.

At this time MP3 downloads are currently only available to customers located in that website's host country.

MP3 downloads from Amazon.com are available to our customers in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and France at:

http://www.amazon.com/mp3

http://www.amazon.co.uk/mp3

http://www.amazon.de/mp3

http://www.amazon.fr/mp3

We work to constantly expand and improve the selection of products and services we provide, but we currently have no further details about our plans to carry MP3 downloads. Any updated information we have will be listed on the website as soon as it is available.

We want to provide the best shopping experience possible to our customers, and we're always interested to hear what you think about the features and services available on our website. I'll make sure your comments are sent to the appropriate people in our company.

We are always expanding our selection, so you may want to check back occasionally to see if we have added this service on our website. Any updated information we have will be listed on the website as soon as it is available.

We value our Amazon.ca customers and hope to make the MP3 downloads available on Amazon.ca in the future.

Best regards,

Vel S.
