fallback nm-applet does not have an icon

I am using nm-applet with trayer and it does not have an icon.
The icon files are installed and located at /usr/share/icons but somehow it does not use

i can confirm this bug testing xfce4-panel and lxpanel in natty with system-tray enabled. the bug only affects the status-icon, not the icons in the menu that is shown when the applet is clicked.
instead of the connection-icon a "missing-icon" is shown. also: the tooltip doesn't work.
note that when using the plugins displaying the ayatana-indicators the icon/s are displayed correctly.
