Bug Description

My parents often have several firefox windows open. They're currently using docky as a window manager but never manage to get a certain window to the front as they're always clicking the launcher only once. They will never ever catch the idea of double-clicking launchers in some situations. Showing the overview of all open windows would be a big help. Besides that, Win7 launchers behave the same (showing litte previews of all open app windows).

This report seems suspicious. You are talking about docky (which is not a window manager BTW), where the description in this report fits the default behavior, but the bug is assigned to unity, which DOES use compiz scale to present open windows by default.
Can you please verify this, by stating which ubuntu version you are using and if a docky or unity process is running, by entering the following command in a terminal window:
     ps ax | grep -E "unity|docky"
and paste the output here.

Thank you.

Sorry for being unclear.
My parents are *currently* using Docky as an applauncher and windowpicker. If an app has more than one window associated, Docky only shows one of them if you click the apps launcher. My parents never grasp that they have to perform another mouse action in order to bring one of the other windows to front.

I tried Unity yesterday. Unity has the same problems as Docky - it only shows one of a set of open windows. Therefore it should trigger the scale plugin if the selected launcher has more than one windows associated. As Win7 does.

Patrick.. it does.

Josh.. it does not. At least not in the current beta.

Steps to reproduce:

- Click on another launcher
- Click on the launcher with multiple windows
-> Only one window is focused, the scale plugin is not triggered.

Beta 2: I can confirm Patrick's report.

Example:
 2 Firefox windows,
 3 terminal windows

- Firefox is maximized in foreground,
- click on terminal launcher switches back to last active terminal window
- only 2nd! click (with terminal beeing in foreground) on terminal launcher triggers scale plugin

While I can confirm Patrick's report I don't think the behaviour he expects is desirable, as this would mean that only to switch between applications you would have to do more than one click. Maybe we can come up with a different idea to satisfy beginners and more sophisticated users at the same time? Have a look at http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/28065/

Apart from that this behaviour can be very confusing if you have many windows of the same application open which look more or less the same in the scale view (e.g. Terminal)
