Bug Description
I have found on Unity 3D 3.6.8, that if you boot up the OS, start the software update utility and nothing is downloaded/updated, the ALT-F2 run-command bar, the ubuntu-logo-search bar and applications button do not show any software installed. The Application button do not show anything (remains black and empty).

I can't confirm this. Could you confirm whether this occurs with the latest version of Unity (3.8.2) ?
P.S. This seems to be affecting unity-place- applications instead.
