Bug Description

I have a 1ghz AMD based laptop with 512mb of ram and the Edgy installer runs very slowly. So slow in fact that each time you click a button it takes around 10 minutes for the next screen to come up. I've tried various solutions such as "noapic nolapic" on boot without success.

On this same laptop the Dapper installer works fine, so its easy to suspect that something is wrong with the Edgy installer. What would have made this all moot however would be an option on boot of the installer cd to do an old style text based installation instead.

So this feature request is to bring back in some form the ability to do old-school style text based install with the standard install cd. This would have made my life much easier!

I'm afraid that this is impossible because the live installer differs fundamentally from the alternate installer (the former installs a live system, the latter from packages). Both cannot be combined in once CD because of space issues. From what I know the the edgy installer does not differ from the dapper installer to an extent that can justify this behaviour. Does the rest of the system work at an acceptable speed? At any rate, can you please attach /var/log/syslog ? Thanks.

This bug is not valid because:
1) Edgy is EOL.
2) GUI and text installer can't fit on a CD - if you want them both please use the DVD image. Or use the alternate install CD just for text installer.
Please test the latest Ubuntu version (9.10 or 10.04) and report a new bug if necessary.
