Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity-2d

I've been having multiple issues with crashes of the Applications and Files menus in Unity proper. Per Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen's request in the 742085 comments, I tried Unity-2d to see if the problems would persist -- and it looks like we've got our answer. (Or something completely different that just LOOKS related...)

Applications and Files menus show up blank, and typing commands into them does not seem to work. (Alt-F2 works for running commands, and DOES show recently-run programs.) I believe this crash occurred when I tried to open the Applications menu.

I am using Unity 2D. When I opened the applications menu through the main ubuntu menu in the top left corner, it didn't want to close anymore. The Unity sidebar/launcher and the opened applications meme became unresponsive for about a minute. Afterwards it closed down and asked me to file a bug report.

If you need any more info, just let me know.

Closing down as the latest reproduction is over 2 months old and the stack trace is not pointing to anything useful at all unfortunately.
